Aims

The programme is intended for engineering or engineering sciences graduates wishing to upgrade their management skills for application in an engineering organization. It enables graduates to strengthen their academic profiles for career advancement; and at the same time to fulfill CPD requirements of professional bodies. Students are equipped with comprehensive knowledge and know-how to manage an engineering organization, development projects and to deploy technology to an engineering project. Graduates can progress in a career as a technical manager in an engineering organization.

Mode of Study

The mode of delivery is part-time face-to-face. Lectures are conducted in weekday evenings and Saturdays. Learning activities include lectures, workshops, field visits, laboratories, site surveys, seminars, and dissertation. Students may also enroll in individual courses without registering for the Master’s degree.

Programme Structure and Study Period

The nominal period of study is 2 years.

Each student will take courses to a total of 60 credits. Course are either 10 credits or 20 credits each. A 10-credit course will usually have 26 weeks of lectures, 1 night (2.5 to 3 hours) per week. Similarly, a 20-credit course will have 26 weeks of lectures, 2 nights (2.5×2 or 3×2 hours) per week.

Fee : Approximately $60,000 (payable on per-course basis)

Entry Requirements

Students admitted to the programme should have:

  • A recognized degree or equivalent in Engineering, Engineering Science or a relevant discipline from a tertiary institution; or
  • A recognized degree or equivalent in a non-Engineering discipline from a tertiary institution; with at least 3 years of relevant work experience in Engineering.

Advanced standing / Credit exemption

Holders of recognized postgraduate qualifications may be granted exemptions of up to 20 credits for the Master of Engineering programmes.
