The Doctor of Engineering Degree

The Doctor of Engineering (D.Eng) is a professional doctorate degree to prepare engineers to work at the highest level of the engineering profession. Graduates of the programme are problem solvers who can deploy technology knowhow to solve real engineering problem in an innovative way for the benefit of mankind, taking into account of the social, economic, environmental, political and institutional implications. These individuals are expected to further their career as a professional engineer in a business, industry or public environment.

Programme Structure

The D.Eng is a research-oriented programme. The programme includes two stages, moving from a broad-based understanding of current engineering issues in the coursework component to independent research of a specific engineering problem in the Thesis.

The programme will normally take four years to complete, subject to a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 8 years.

Admission Requirements

To enter the D.Eng programme, an applicant must have a recognized Master's degree in science, engineering or related discipline. Applicants will be selected on the basis of their academic results, professional experience, and ability to complete doctoral studies.

The D.Eng programme will admit students in September. Application for admission may be made from June to July.
